Trying to pick a health insurance plan can be a chore for anyone. For many people, just mentioning the word "open enrollment" sends shivers down the spine. One would think that health insurance gets easier as you approach retirement age, but the truth is that picking an initial Medicare coverage plan can be daunting.

Unfortunately, the confusing process of signing up for Medicare causes many seniors to forego healthcare coverage altogether. After all, Medicare enrollment can involve several federal agencies, including the Social Security Administration (or SSA) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (or CMS).

That way, they can enjoy retirement with peace of mind knowing they are protected and ready for life after 65. What is Medicare?

If you're approaching the golden years of your life, it's important you understand what Medicare is if you don't already.

Medicare is a federal health insurance program reserved for people older than 65 who have worked full-time for at least ten years. The Medicare program is paid for by a combination of worker payroll tax, premiums paid by Medicare enrollees, and the U.S. government.

There are four parts of Medicare:

Senior Medicare Plans Arlington, TX
A

This type of Medicare is free for most U.S. citizens. Medicare Part A helps older adults pay for care in a nursing facility, hospital visits, and some forms of in-home senior care.

B

This tier costs around $100 per month. It covers different outpatient services like lab tests, preventative care, doctor's visits, mental health care, clinical trials, and some forms of surgery.

C

This type of Medicare is most often called Medicare Advantage. This tier of Medicare allows seniors to choose health plans provided by insurance companies like Senior Medicare Insurance Services. Individuals who use Medicare Advantage commonly use Medicare supplement plan insurance to help pay for health care costs that Original Medicare won't cover, like coinsurance, deductibles, and copayments.

D

Sometimes called "PDPs," these plans add drug coverage to standard Medicare, some Medicare Private Fee-for-Service Plans (PFFS), some Medicare Cost Plans, and Medicare Medical Savings Account Plans (MSA).

The amount of money you pay for your health care depends on several factors, including:

At Senior Medicare Insurance Services, we offer a number of health insurance solutions for seniors. Two of our most used services include Medicare Advantage plan insurance and Medicare supplement plan insurance.

Senior Medicare Supplement Plan Insurance in Arlington, TX

Sometimes called Medigap, the purpose of Medicare Supplement Insurance is to help fill in "gaps" that might not be covered by Original Medicare. You can think of a Medigap policy as a supplement for your Original Medicare benefits.

Private companies like Senior Medicare Insurance Services sell this type of insurance right here in South Carolina. While Original Medicare will pay for much of the cost associated with health care services you need, it may not cover all of your expenses. Generally, Medigap policies do not cover costs stemming from eyeglasses, private-duty nurses, dental care, hearing aids, or long-term care.

Depending on the Medicare Supplement Plan that you choose, it may cover out-of-the-country medical services when you travel abroad. Assuming you have Original Medicare coverage, your policy will cover its share of Medicare-approved health care costs. Once your Original Medicare coverage reaches its limit, your Medigap policy will pay its share of the fees.

Our Medigap policies are drafted to meet your specific needs, and can help cover remaining health care costs such as:

Deductibles

Copayments

Coinsurance

Important Information About Senior Supplement Plan Insurance

To dispel some confusion, you should know that a Medigap policy is not the same as a Medicare Advantage Plan. The latter helps you receive Medicare benefits, while the former supplements the benefits you obtain through your Original Medicare plan. As you begin to explore Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans, keep the following important information in mind:

Medicare Plans Arlington, TX

As you begin to explore Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans, keep the following important information in mind:

  • To qualify for a Medigap policy, you must first have Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B.
  • Payments on your Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan will be made to the private insurance company that you choose, like Senior Medicare Insurance Services. These payments are made every month and are paid in addition to the monthly payment you make for Medicare Part B.
  • If you are the holder of a Medicare Advantage Plan, it is illegal for an insurance company to sell you a senior Medicare Supplement Policy. If you plan on switching back to an Original Medicare plan, you may be able to purchase a Medigap policy.
  • If you have health problems as you age, your standardized Medigap policy is guaranteed to be renewable. So long as you pay your monthly premium, your insurance provider cannot cancel your policy.
  • Medigap policies only cover one person. If you have a spouse or family member that would like coverage, they must purchase a separate policy.
  • You may only buy a Senior Medicare Supplement Plan from an insurance agent that is licensed to sell them in your state. Senior Medicare Insurance Services has been licensed to sell Medigap policies in South Carolina for years. We have helped countless seniors get the Medicare coverage they need and continue to do so to this day.
  • In the past, Medigap policies were able to cover costs related to prescription drugs. As of January 1st, 2006, prescription drug coverage is not available on Medicare Supplement Plans. The best way to get coverage for your prescription drugs is to join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan, often called Part D. Contact our office today to learn more about paying premiums on Medigap and Medicare plans.

For many people, the best time to buy senior Medicare Supplement Plan Insurance in Arlington, TX is during the 7 months Medigap Open Enrollment Period. This period starts the day you turn 65 years old, so long as you hold Medical Insurance (Medicare Part B). Generally, during the enrollment period, you get more policy choices and better pricing. Once the enrollment period is over, you may not be able to purchase a Medigap policy. Contact Senior Medicare Insurance Services today to determine if you qualify for a Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan.

A Medicare Advantage Plan is a kind of Medicare health coverage designed to provide seniors with all their Part A and Part B Medicare benefits. Many Medicare Advantage Plans will often include coverage of the following:

Senior Health Insurance Arlington, TX

In addition, most Medicare Advantage Plans give seniors coverage for their prescription drug needs. When you enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan through Senior Medicare Insurance Services, your Medicare benefits are covered through your plan and will not be paid for by traditional Medicare.

How Medicare Advantage Plans Work

Sometimes called "MA Plans" or "Part C," Medicare Advantage Plans are considered an "all in one" solution to Original Medicare. Senior Medicare Advantage Plans are only offered by private companies that are approved, like Senior Medicare Insurance Services. Seniors who enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan are still on Medicare. However, these individuals enjoy bundled plans that give seniors the benefits of hospital insurance (Medicare Part A), medical insurance (Medicare Part B), and sometimes drug coverage (Part D).

Medicare Advantage Plans are very popular because they cover all Medicare services and make life a little easier for seniors who have trouble understanding the nuances of Medicare.

When you contact Senior Medicare Insurance Services to choose your Medicare Advantage Plan, ask your agent about Medicare prescription drug coverage. Unless you already have drug coverage (Part D), you should seriously consider Part D coverage to help reduce costs associated with prescription drugs. You may also want to consider a Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan to help fill gaps in coverage that Original Medicare will not cover.

  • Whether you must get a referral to see a specialized doctor

Paying for Your Medicare Agent

We encourage you to contact our office today to learn more about Medicare Advantage Plans, how they work, what your options are, and how often you will have to pay out-of-pocket, if at all.

The Public Works Department held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new Traffic Management Center located at the Municipal Office Tower.

The opening of Traffic Management Center (TMC) signifies the City’s effort on managing traffic flow and conditions in the City and the continued investment in Arlington’s future.

Public Work Director Keith Brooks, spoke at Wednesday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, along with Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, Chris Funches, Public Works City Traffic Engineer and Michael Morris with North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG).

The TMC has new LED screens to monitor the traffic flow condition and identify hotspots with traffic congestion throughout the City. The TMC has 10 traffic management workstations, a conference room, and a workspace for programming and troubleshooting equipment. Also, the TMC manages 380 signalized intersections and monitors 200 traffic cameras across the city.

“We want to implement smarter technology to be able to detect and predict so we can improve the traffic flow in our City,” Public Works Director Keith Brooks.

The TMC has increased capacity to accommodate addition staff. The previous capacity was for 5 people and the new capacity can hold up 40 people for more coordination of major traffic incidents across the city.

“We have implemented technology in the field to be proactive, for example when a traffic signal goes into flash, the TMC receive alerts and emails so we can send staff from Field Operation to make repairs. So, we are looking to be proactive with technology,” Funches said.

The TMC staff monitors traffic and proactively manages traffic signals at intersections remotely. The key objective is to make sure residents and visitors get to their destination safely and efficiently.

The residents of Arlington will feel and see the long-term benefit on the TMC along with people who commute through the city. With the reduction of wait-time at the traffic light, reduced traffic congestion, these traffic implementations will improve air quality and safety.

The funding from the TMC was provided through Capital Bond Funds.

The next step for Traffic Engineering is implementing new technology across the city on roadways to integrate into the TMC.

“Very impressed with the team effort that was given by working together with everybody. That’s the way you get things done is to work hand-in-hand to make good stuff happen for good communities that type of good behavior is awarded by having a facility to take care of our traffic issues in the City,” Ross said.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The United Athletic Conference announced Monday that both Dorcas Jepkosgei and Toby Eaton swept the conference's weekly cross country awards. Jepkosgei's record-setting day at the Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday netted her Women's Runner of the Week while Eaton's effort at the meet earned him Men's Runner of the Week.

Lightning struck twice for Jepkosgei over the weekend. Nearly a year to the day when the Kenya native broke the UTA program record for women's 5k with a 16:09.5 at last season's Chile Pepper Festival, Jepkosgei did it once again.

The sophomore broke her own program record at the Women Harter's Habanero 5k, clocking a 15:59.1 in the event. Jepkosgei finished as the runner up in a field of over 250 individuals.

She ended just a tenth of a second behind Arkansas' Braelyn Combe, who caught Jepkosgei at the tape for the win. Jepkosgei's runner-up placement followed her victory in the 5k at the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational. The Kenya native has finished second or first in six cross country events in her career.

Jepkosgei's time is just two seconds off the course record at Agri Park. She helped UTA finish fourth out of 28 teams and in front of power four programs such as Baylor and Texas. Her runner-up placement followed her victory in the 5k at the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational.

This is Jepkosgei's fourth conference cross country athlete of the week award after winning three WAC Cross Country Athlete of Week awards her freshman season. She is currently ranked 95th in the country in the USTFCCCA Division I Cross Country Rating Index.

Eaton led the way for UTA on the men's side, competing in the Chile Pepper Festival's McDonell Memorial 8k. The junior finished 14th overall out of a field that featured over 270 individuals.

All told, Eaton ran a 24:38.8 at the event. The Mansfield native helped UTA finish seventh out of 26 teams. He has finished top 15 or better in both of UTA's meets so far this season, finishing in third at the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational as well.

This is Eaton's second weekly conference cross country award as a Maverick. He was named WAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week once during the 2025 season.

ARLINGTON, Texas — The University of Texas at Arlington Athletics Department has experienced significant philanthropic growth in recent years, with overall fundraising increasing by 800 percent since the 2022-23 academic year and nearly $9 million raised over the last 18 months.

The growth includes three consecutive years of record fundraising and reflects the continued support of donors, alumni and supporters who have invested in the future of Maverick student-athletes and athletics programs.

"We want to thank our donors. Their support has been fantastic," UTA Director of Athletics Jon Fagg said. "Over the last several years, they have stepped up and supported us in a huge way. We really appreciate them. Their belief in our student-athletes and our vision for UTA Athletics has made a tremendous difference."

UTA Athletics set a department fundraising record for the third consecutive year during the 2025-26 fiscal year, raising nearly $5 million in support of Maverick student-athletes and programs.

The continued growth comes at a time of significant change across college athletics, where fundraising and revenue generation play an increasingly important role in supporting student-athletes and athletics programs.

To begin the 2026-27 academic year, UTA Athletics hosted the Maverick Blueprint, a philanthropic-focused event designed to share the department's vision and provide supporters with opportunities to invest in the future of Maverick Athletics.

Supporters responded with commitments that will help strengthen resources for student-athletes and athletics programs while advancing the department's long-term priorities.

Funds generated through recent fundraising efforts will support four key areas:

· Student-Athlete Nutrition – Supporting the health, wellness and performance needs of student-athletes.

· Championship Facilities – Enhancing athletics venues and training environments.

· NIL and Revenue Sharing – Providing resources to help Maverick programs remain competitive in the evolving college athletics landscape.

· Scholarships – Expanding educational opportunities for UTA student-athletes.

"These are exciting times for Maverick Athletics, and our donors are amazing," said Ira Childress, Deputy Athletics Director for Development and General Manager of Athletics. "The support we received at the Maverick Blueprint event was outstanding. It is like what we've seen over the last three years in terms of fundraising, and we can't thank our donors enough for their support. Their investment will help elevate our program and provide our student-athletes with the resources they need to succeed."

The record-setting fundraising totals reflect continued investment in the future of UTA Athletics and provide resources that support student-athletes both on and off the field of competition.

As UTA Athletics continues to build on its recent momentum, the department remains focused on creating opportunities for student-athletes through the support of its donors, alumni, fans, and community partners.

The Arlington Master Chorale will honor the City of Arlington’s 150th anniversary with “Treasures of the Heart,” a two‑night concert series set for Oct. 15 and 16 at First Baptist Church Arlington, located at 301 S. Center St. Both performances begin at 7 p.m. and will feature nearly 100 singers from across the Metroplex.

The concerts center around a commissioned work by acclaimed composer Laura Farnell, an Arlington resident known nationwide for her choral compositions. The new piece, titled "Psalm 150," was created exclusively for the city’s milestone celebration and is proudly underwritten by the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation.

Artistic Director Kay Owens said collaborating with Farnell has been a rewarding experience shaped by months of creative exchange.

“Anytime you get to work on a commissioned piece it becomes a journey,” Owens said. “You share ideas with the composer on how to present it, what tempo to consider, the difficulty level and how it fits the choir. It’s a fun process.”

The commissioned piece features text in English and Latin as well as elements of Psalm 150 from the Bible.

“I’ve known Laura for more than 30 years,” Owens said. “She is one of the most sought out composers in the United States and she lives right here in Arlington. She is very Arlington, which is a compliment. She is invested in the community and wants to help it thrive. When I asked her to join us on this journey she graciously accepted.”

Owens believes its quality ensures it will find life beyond the anniversary celebration.

“It is a piece that can be picked up, published and distributed worldwide. It can have a life long after the dedication of Arlington’s 150th anniversary,” she said.

Visit Arlington150.com for more historical articles, photos and events planned throughout 2026.

Both concerts will also spotlight young musicians from Arlington ISD. Students from Bailey Junior High will perform Thursday and students from Boles Junior High will perform Friday. Owens said supporting local students is part of the Chorale’s mission.

“We provide a platform for students at every concert and guest composers visit classrooms to teach the importance of music,” she said. “The Chorale covers that cost because investing in young musicians matters.”

Owens said the opportunity to contribute to Arlington’s historic moment is deeply personal.

“I have lived here for more than 30 years and spent nearly all that time teaching in Arlington ISD,” she said. “When you are a good teacher, you buy in to the community and the kids. To stand on this stage and conduct a piece written for the city’s anniversary is a thrill. Our choir is diverse like the fabric of Arlington. For members who grew up here it means a great deal. For younger singers, it teaches them what it means to be part of history. That is the educator in me.”

"I have been here all my life,” said marketing director Cathy Hyde. “I was born at the city’s original hospital, Arlington Memorial. To represent my hometown on this stage is so special. It also showcases the Arlington Master Chorale's rebranding efforts to position ourselves back in a prominent role in the community as we are Arlington's Vocal Legacy and have been since 1973."

Individual tickets purchased online are $18. Tickets at the door are $20 with cash and credit cards accepted. Students and children are admitted free and adults who are students must present a valid school ID.

More information about ticket pricing and the Arlington Master Chorale’s 2026‑27 season is available on the organization’s website.
