The company announced plans to open a location at Colony Plaza, 2121 Windsor Spring Road, Suite 100.
It will be Burlington’s 46th store in Georgia, joining another one in the Augusta Exchange shopping center on Robert C. Daniel Parkway.
Burlington, once best known for coats and outerwear, now sells a wide range of discounted merchandise for families and homes, including clothing, shoes, beauty products, baby items, pet supplies and home décor. The company says shoppers can find top brands at up to 60% off other retailers’ prices, with new merchandise arriving daily.
The Augusta store will feature Burlington’s reimagined store design, part of a nationwide effort to modernize locations. The refreshed format includes wider, more organized aisles and bold signage meant to make it easier for customers to find trend-forward brands and seasonal items. Burlington plans to open 110 net new stores in 2026, all with the updated layout, and expects to convert all existing locations by the end of the year.
The cost of Labor Day travel is rising, with average gas prices in Augusta rising 14 cents overnight to $3.84 per gallon Tuesday, compared to $3.70 the day before.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A new watchdog report details supply chain failures at the VA Augusta Health Care System that have been blamed for operating room shutdowns, missing medical equipment and waste of supplies.
Augusta’s main Department of Veterans Affairs hospital did not reliably track or store basic medical supplies and critical equipment between March and June of this year, according to the report.
Inspectors found inaccurate inventory records, poor monitoring and weak security.

Staff told inspectors the main operating room had to be closed four times between October 2025 and February 2026 because of incomplete surgical kits, expired supplies and unreliable restocking.
One shutdown lasted 27 days.
In a review of 100 expendable items – things like surgical staplers, catheters and oxygen sensors – inventory records were wrong for 89. Some items were actually far overstocked, raising the risk they would expire. Others were stocked below normal or emergency levels.
The report also found:
The report ties many of the problems to leadership turnover, staffing shortages, and lack of training and accountability. As of March, only 60 of 125 supply positions were filled.
Inspectors also faulted how the hospital handled technology meant to fix problems.

In 2021, VA awarded a $3.2 million contract for a system to automatically track supplies and trigger reorders. The system was only partially installed, never fully used and later shut off.
A second contract worth about $223,000 was awarded in December 2025 to finish the installation, but the system still was not fully in place as of June.
Similar problems had been flagged for at least three years, but many corrective steps weren’t taken.
The health system’s interim director, who arrived in February, told inspectors he was directed to address culture and accountability. He and other leaders have created an action plan.
VA leaders at the regional and facility level agreed with the recommendations in the report.

City leaders approved an extra $2 million this summer to speed up work through the main business corridor. The finished project is expected to add streetscape and accessibility improvements, including more space for outdoor dining in some areas. Businesses have months of construction left to get through first.
Underground surprises reshaping the timeline
Every time crews break ground on Broad Street, they are digging up decades-old infrastructure, and some of what they are finding is reshaping the timeline.
Dr. Hameed Malik, director of engineering for Augusta, said Broad Street is one of the most challenging projects because crews are working in a historic area where infrastructure was placed roughly 100 years ago.
“There’s no good documentation to see where these utilities are, especially what’s underneath the road,” Malik said.
Malik said what’s underneath is a web of water, sewer, power, gas and storm lines.
“And these are all clay pipes still sitting there,” Malik said.
The city says replacing that aging infrastructure is part of the rebuild. Working more blocks at once means less room above ground, too.
Parking impacted during construction
Malik estimates 60 to 70 parking spaces are temporarily impacted. He said the city has added 62 temporary spaces, plus about 50 permanent spaces along 12th Street and Jones Street.
According to the city’s engineering department, on-street parking along the curb is temporarily affected within active construction areas as crews complete work within and around sidewalks and curbing. Approximately 30 parking spaces per block may be temporarily unavailable while active construction is underway, though the city describes these as temporary impacts rather than permanent parking losses.
The city has also expanded parking options during construction through additional leased spaces and existing public parking resources, including the 9th Street Parking Deck and parking at the Richmond County Board of Education deck, which is available after 5 p.m. and on weekends.
The parking map now stretches beyond Broad Street to Jones Street between 13th and 10th streets, Ellis Street, 9th and Reynolds streets, and the 9th Street deck.
The city says there is no anticipated net loss of parking as a result of the project. If pre-construction parking spaces were configured to current standards, the corridor would have had approximately 620 parking spaces. Upon completion of the current improvements, approximately 625 parking spaces are expected to be available.
Parking availability, construction impacts and business access are monitored through daily on-site coordination by the Augusta Engineering construction team assigned to the project, according to the city. Conditions are also reviewed as part of weekly construction progress meetings.
“There will never be a perfect design to start with,” Malik said. “You have to have a good confidence on that design, and then you have to have good experience to deal with the situation we deal with.”
Updated construction windows
The city says multiple construction zones are now active at the same time, allowing crews to make steady progress on utility upgrades, streetscape improvements and infrastructure work. The revised schedule reflects current field conditions, weather impacts and coordination needs with utilities and downtown stakeholders.
The updated schedule breaks down anticipated construction windows for each section of Broad Street:
Work across these segments includes underground utility upgrades, streetscape and accessibility enhancements and other infrastructure improvements intended to support businesses and make the corridor easier and safer to navigate on foot, by car and by bike.
Compared to a schedule the city provided in May 2026, most segments now show later start dates and later end dates, with lane impacts extending farther into the fall and winter than originally planned.
The city’s engineering department said Friday, Aug. 14, had been the original target date for substantial completion of the block between 13th and 12th streets. The south side of that block, along Ellis Street, is substantially complete, while work continues on the north side along Jones Street.
The city said the overall project schedule remains on track, with improvements within the Broad Street business corridor from 13th Street to 5th Street expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The city said the schedule and duration of work within individual blocks may shift as construction progresses, primarily to accommodate installation of new stormwater infrastructure, and block-by-block schedules may also be adjusted if crews encounter conflicts with existing underground utilities or other unforeseen subsurface conditions.
Communication with downtown businesses
The city said it has prioritized consistent, proactive communication with downtown businesses, stakeholders and the broader community throughout the project. Project-related communications are distributed to the project’s subscriber list, posted to AugustaDTP.com and Augustaga.gov and shared on the city’s social media channels, including construction and traffic updates, monthly newsletters and regular digital updates.
The project team also communicates directly with business owners who request information or have questions about construction activity affecting their specific location. The city said it shares project information with community partners including the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Development Authority.
The city has also engaged local vendors to produce videos highlighting downtown businesses and sharing construction-related information, and provided the footage for businesses’ own use.

Shop allows work to continue in bad weather
Founder Gary Johnson said the organization still offers mobile services, but having the shop has allowed them to keep working.
“We’ve had non-stop people contacting us to get repairs done. As you can see, we have 3 cars in the shop right now that we are in the middle of working on,” Johnson said.
“There’s been many days it’s pouring down rain outside, and we are still able to work. We are not shut down because of weather,” Johnson said.
Transportation barrier
Zanders works at a school and said she knows how important having transportation is.
“I see that transportation is a huge barrier for families... So for them to be able to find a place that helps them is beneficial, not only for them, but for the school and the families as well,” Zanders said.
Zanders said the services did not hurt her wallet.
“It exceeded my expectations. I was able to afford it. It didn’t break my wallet. So I’m very grateful for their services. And I encourage everyone else to call. And if you can volunteer, please do so as well,” Zanders said.
Donations keep costs affordable
Johnson said donations allow the organization to keep its services affordable. He said there have been times when people cannot afford the lower cost.
“We do a time where sometimes we have the ability to give a job out completely free, but we can’t do that without the donations and just getting these people back on the road,” Johnson said.
The organization is still in need of volunteers to help run the office and service cars. Officials said volunteers do not need experience and will be taught.

The problems at Brigham include the boilers and sand filters. The issues resulted in officials shutting the doors since last October – 11 months ago.
“I think it’s absolutely ridiculous. I guess we need to get to the bottom and find out why it’s still closed because a lot of people come up here and use the center,” said Keith Hall.
And a lot of people are not happy the pool is still closed. It prompted an online petition drive to get it reopened, and it prompted calls to city leaders to get the pool back in order.
“My concern is that if our senior citizens are used to coming to Henry Brigham, we need to get that program back up and running,” said Commissioner Francine Scott.
Commissioners called in Recreation Department Director Tameka Williams looking for answers, but Williams told city leaders there’s no fixed date when the repairs will be finished.
“This is a priority we need to know exactly when it’s going to be fixed. If it’s going to be three weeks, tell us it’s going to be three weeks. But George, frankly, I think it’s going to be much longer than that,” said Commissioner Scott.
And at Brigham, they’ve gotten used to waiting.
