BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) - Approximately 157 residents are being relocated after a significant structural collapse at a Bradenton assisted living facility Saturday afternoon.
The collapse happened at Aviata at Bradenton Villas, located at 105 15th St. E.
Officials say the collapse was caused by extensive water damage and termite damage. Despite the structural failure, no injuries were reported.
Residents are being evacuated from the facility and transported to other assisted living facilities throughout the region.
The response is being coordinated by Manatee County Public Safety and Emergency Medical Services, the Bradenton Fire Department, the City of Bradenton, and several regional partners.
Manatee County Emergency Management is assisting with the relocation effort, while Hillsborough and Pinellas counties have deployed additional transportation resources, including ambulances and accessible transit vehicles, to help move residents safely.
“This is exactly the kind of situation where strong partnerships and preparation make a difference,” Manatee County Commissioner Amanda Ballard said in a statement. “Our priority is making sure every resident is safely relocated and cared for during what is undoubtedly a difficult and disruptive situation. I’m grateful to our Public Safety team, Bradenton Fire Department and our regional partners for stepping up quickly to help these residents and their families.”
Bradenton Mayor Gene Brown also thanked first responders and regional agencies assisting with the evacuation.
“This is a challenging situation, and our hearts are with the residents and their families,” Brown said in a statement. “We are working closely with Manatee County and all regional partners to ensure everyone is safe, supported, and cared for throughout this evacuation.”
Bradenton Fire Department personnel and Manatee County EMS District Chiefs remain at the scene alongside facility representatives as they continue coordinating transportation and alternate housing for residents.
Officials said no additional emergency response units have been requested at this time.

ANNA MARIA ISLAND, Fla. — Members of Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch say light pollution is to blame for the deaths of 55 loggerhead turtle hatchlings that were hit by cars on Gulf Drive in Bradenton Beach last week.
Kristen Mazzarella, executive director of the conservation group, said the hatchlings came from multiple nests along a half-mile stretch of the main road. She said they were confused by lights from homes and businesses, and crawled toward the street instead of the gulf.
“It’s pretty unusual," Mazzarella said. "I’ve been doing this for 28 years and I’ve never seen that many hatchlings (killed) in one day.”
According to AMITW, hatchlings normally follow the light of the night sky reflecting on water to make their way to the Gulf. Artificial lights can draw them inland instead.
According to information from the group, this nesting season has thus far seen a higher percentage of hatchling disorientations than last year. According to AMITW, last year had a 31% disorientation rate and a record 150 hatchling disorientations. Halfway through this hatching season, the group says there is already a 36% disorientation rate and 54 disorientations.
Mazzarella said vacationers might not know the importance of turning off or shielding lights so hatchlings can safely reach the water. She also said that the 2024 storm season worsened the issue.
“The hurricanes wiped out a lot of the dunes and the vegetation, so the lights that weren’t seen from the beach in previous years are now being seen from the beach in the last two years,” Mazzarella said.
Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch is working with Manatee County to hand out flyers to homeowners whose lights are not turtle-friendly and explain how to make changes.
The group leaders say people on the island can help by turning off non-essential nighttime lighting, switching to amber or red LED bulbs, using directional shields on outdoor light fixtures, and closing blinds or curtains to keep light from reaching the beach. The group also says businesses and landlords should let employees and tenants know about those steps.
Cat Harris, who works on Bradenton Beach, said she found hatchlings in a sewer several months ago before fire crews rescued them.
“I walked by a sewer and there were all these wriggly things in it," she said. "And I saw that there were turtles in there."
Harris said it was “terrible” that the 55 hatchlings were not as lucky this week.
“It’s just sad that the lights are bringing them out,” Harris said.
Mazzarella said people who find living or dead hatchlings can call Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch at 941-301-8434. She said responders will come out at any time, day or night, and that it is not uncommon for hatchlings to end up in sewers or other dangerous places.
