Trying to pick a health insurance plan can be a chore for anyone. For many people, just mentioning the word "open enrollment" sends shivers down the spine. It seems like there's always a nagging feeling that you're wasting money, choosing a plan with poor in-network care, or both. One would think that health insurance gets easier as you approach retirement age, but the truth is that picking an initial Medicare coverage plan can be daunting.
Unfortunately, the confusing process of signing up for Medicare causes many seniors to forego healthcare coverage altogether. After all, Medicare enrollment can involve several federal agencies, including the Social Security Administration (or SSA) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (or CMS).
At Senior Medicare Insurance Services, our passion is guiding seniors through the confusion of Medicare. That way, they can enjoy retirement with peace of mind knowing they are protected and ready for life after 65. We work with dozens of insurance companies, giving our clients the chance to choose a plan that best fits their lifestyle.
We choose to design our senior insurance plans with a focus on optimal benefits structure, lower costs, and personalized service. Some independent insurance agencies see their aging customers as nothing more than a financial transaction waiting to happen. In contrast, we treat each of our clients with respect and dignity as we help them navigate the confusing waters of Medicare. Combined with individualized service, we help older Americans make well-informed decisions about insurance. Whether you're in need of senior Medicare Supplement Plan insurance in League City, TX or simply have questions about signing up for Medicare, our team is here to help.

What is Medicare?
If you're approaching the golden years of your life, it's important you understand what Medicare is if you don't already.
Medicare is a federal health insurance program reserved for people older than 65 who have worked full-time for at least ten years. The Medicare program is paid for by a combination of worker payroll tax, premiums paid by Medicare enrollees, and the U.S. government.
There are four parts of Medicare:

The amount of money you pay for your health care depends on several factors, including:
- What kind of care you need, and how often it is needed.
- The type of Medicare coverage you choose.
- Whether there are alternative insurance policies that will help fill gaps in your coverage
- Whether a doctor agrees to charge you the same amount that Medicare will cover for a medical service
At Senior Medicare Insurance Services, we offer a number of health insurance solutions for seniors. Two of our most used services include Medicare Advantage plan insurance and Medicare supplement plan insurance.
Senior Medicare Supplement Plan Insurance in League City, TX
Sometimes called Medigap, the purpose of Medicare Supplement Insurance is to help fill in "gaps" that might not be covered by Original Medicare. You can think of a Medigap policy as a supplement for your Original Medicare benefits.
Private companies like Senior Medicare Insurance Services sell this type of insurance right here in South Carolina. While Original Medicare will pay for much of the cost associated with health care services you need, it may not cover all of your expenses. Generally, Medigap policies do not cover costs stemming from eyeglasses, private-duty nurses, dental care, hearing aids, or long-term care.
Depending on the Medicare Supplement Plan that you choose, it may cover out-of-the-country medical services when you travel abroad. Assuming you have Original Medicare coverage, your policy will cover its share of Medicare-approved health care costs. Once your Original Medicare coverage reaches its limit, your Medigap policy will pay its share of the fees.
Our Medigap policies are drafted to meet your specific needs, and can help cover remaining health care costs such as:
Deductibles
Copayments
Coinsurance
Important Information About Senior Supplement Plan Insurance
To dispel some confusion, you should know that a Medigap policy is not the same as a Medicare Advantage Plan. The latter helps you receive Medicare benefits, while the former supplements the benefits you obtain through your Original Medicare plan. As you begin to explore Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans, keep the following important information in mind:
As you begin to explore Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans, keep the following important information in mind:
- To qualify for a Medigap policy, you must first have Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B.
- Payments on your Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan will be made to the private insurance company that you choose, like Senior Medicare Insurance Services. These payments are made every month and are paid in addition to the monthly payment you make for Medicare Part B.
- If you are the holder of a Medicare Advantage Plan, it is illegal for an insurance company to sell you a senior Medicare Supplement Policy. If you plan on switching back to an Original Medicare plan, you may be able to purchase a Medigap policy.
- If you have health problems as you age, your standardized Medigap policy is guaranteed to be renewable. So long as you pay your monthly premium, your insurance provider cannot cancel your policy.
- Medigap policies only cover one person. If you have a spouse or family member that would like coverage, they must purchase a separate policy.
- You may only buy a Senior Medicare Supplement Plan from an insurance agent that is licensed to sell them in your state. Senior Medicare Insurance Services has been licensed to sell Medigap policies in South Carolina for years. We have helped countless seniors get the Medicare coverage they need and continue to do so to this day.
- In the past, Medigap policies were able to cover costs related to prescription drugs. As of January 1st, 2006, prescription drug coverage is not available on Medicare Supplement Plans. The best way to get coverage for your prescription drugs is to join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan, often called Part D. Contact our office today to learn more about paying premiums on Medigap and Medicare plans.
For many people, the best time to buy senior Medicare Supplement Plan Insurance in League City, TX is during the 7 months Medigap Open Enrollment Period. This period starts the day you turn 65 years old, so long as you hold Medical Insurance (Medicare Part B). Generally, during the enrollment period, you get more policy choices and better pricing. Once the enrollment period is over, you may not be able to purchase a Medigap policy. Contact Senior Medicare Insurance Services today to determine if you qualify for a Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan.
Medicare Agent in League City, TX
A Medicare Advantage Plan is a kind of Medicare health coverage designed to provide seniors with all their Part A and Part B Medicare benefits. Many Medicare Advantage Plans will often include coverage of the following:
- Preferred Provider Organizations
- Special Needs Plans
- Private Fee-for-Service
- Medicare Medical Savings Account Plans
- Health Maintenance Organizations
In addition, most Medicare Advantage Plans give seniors coverage for their prescription drug needs. When you enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan through Senior Medicare Insurance Services, your Medicare benefits are covered through your plan and will not be paid for by traditional Medicare.
How Medicare Advantage Plans Work
Sometimes called "MA Plans" or "Part C," Medicare Advantage Plans are considered an "all in one" solution to Original Medicare. Senior Medicare Advantage Plans are only offered by private companies that are approved, like Senior Medicare Insurance Services. Seniors who enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan are still on Medicare. However, these individuals enjoy bundled plans that give seniors the benefits of hospital insurance (Medicare Part A), medical insurance (Medicare Part B), and sometimes drug coverage (Part D).
Medicare Advantage Plans are very popular because they cover all Medicare services and make life a little easier for seniors who have trouble understanding the nuances of Medicare.
When you contact Senior Medicare Insurance Services to choose your Medicare Advantage Plan, ask your agent about Medicare prescription drug coverage. Unless you already have drug coverage (Part D), you should seriously consider Part D coverage to help reduce costs associated with prescription drugs. You may also want to consider a Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan to help fill gaps in coverage that Original Medicare will not cover.
Medicare Advantage Plan Insurance Rules
Medicare works by paying a set amount of money to the companies that offer Medicare Agent in League City, TX. That money is used to pay for the care services that you need. Because Medicare Advantage Plans are different, you should expect out-of-pocket costs to vary depending on the plan you choose.
Different plans have different rules for how you receive services, such as:
If you must go to facilities, suppliers, or doctors that belong to your Advantage Plan for non-urgent and non-emergency care.-
Whether you must get a referral to see a specialized doctor
Companies that offer Medicare Advantage Plans must follow strict rules, which are set by Medicare and can change every year.
Paying for Your Medicare Agent
How much you pay for your Medicare Advantage Plan varies and depends on a few different factors. In most cases, if you need a kind of medical service, you will need to rely on the doctors and providers in your plan's service area and network to pay the lowest amounts. In some cases, if you choose to use a service outside of your plan's network of coverage, you may have to pay out-of-pocket.
We encourage you to contact our office today to learn more about Medicare Advantage Plans, how they work, what your options are, and how often you will have to pay out-of-pocket, if at all.

Each week, over 140 employees are responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, and improvement of existing and new infrastructure across League City which includes everything from roadways and traffic lights to storm drains, sewers, and water production.
Below are some tips and projects they are working on:
Water Main Repaired at South Shore Harbour Blvd. & Shore Point
City of League City Water Line Repair crews work 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help maintain reliable water service throughout the community. Extreme heat, dry conditions, shifting soil, and aging infrastructure can place additional stress on underground water lines, increasing the potential for leaks and breaks.
Crews recently responded to a water main break near South Shore Harbour Boulevard and Shore Point. Upon arrival, crews located the affected section of the water line and completed the necessary repairs to restore normal operation. Their timely response helped minimize service disruptions and ensure reliable water service for residents and businesses in the area.
Through routine maintenance and around-the-clock emergency response, Water Line Repair crews help protect the City’s water infrastructure and maintain dependable water service for the League City community.
Modular Sidewalk Pilot Project to Help Preserve Trees
The League City Public Works Street Department is testing modular interlocking paving tiles as an ADA-compliant alternative to traditional concrete sidewalks. The City is using these tiles in areas where tree roots have repeatedly damaged sidewalks to determine whether they can help reduce recurring repairs.
When damage occurs, the Street Supervisor works with the property owner and City Arborist to determine the best solution. If large roots must be cut in close proximity of the trunk, the Arborist may recommend removing the tree due to safety concerns. Modular tiles can be installed over roots without removing large portions of the root system, helping preserve trees while providing a safe walking surface.
League City is currently testing modular sidewalks at multiple locations across the city.
Trailer-Mounted Global Pump Repaired
The City’s Street Stormwater Department reported that its trailer-mounted Global H₂O portable pump displayed an electronic control system fault code, preventing the unit from operating properly. Powered by a JCB diesel engine, the portable pump is designed to handle water, sewage, sludge, and other fluids containing suspended solids and debris.
A Fleet Maintenance mechanic was dispatched to perform an on-site diagnostic evaluation. Testing identified a malfunctioning Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) level sensor that was transmitting incorrect information to the engine control system. As a protective measure, the system placed the engine into a reduced-power, or “limp mode,” operating condition and generated additional related fault codes within the emissions and engine management systems.
The defective DEF level sensor was removed and replaced. Following the repair, Fleet Maintenance inspected the DEF system, associated wiring, electrical connections, and related components to verify proper operation and ensure no additional issues were contributing to the fault.
After completing the repair and final quality inspection, the trailer-mounted Global H₂O portable pump was successfully returned to service and is ready to support Street Stormwater operations.

Below are some tips and projects they are working on:
Don’t Let Sewer Odors In
The City of League City Wastewater Department would like to remind you that if you notice sewer smells in your home, a dried-up P-trap might be the problem. P-traps are located under sinks, toilets, showers, and bathtubs. They can dry out over time due to factors like wind, temperature changes, and not using them often. To fix this, refill the P-trap with water, add a cup of bleach, wait for 15 minutes, and then flush it with water. This will clean the P-trap and eliminate the odor.
Rapid Response Assists with Tree Removal on Coryell Street
League City’s Rapid Response team, with assistance from Gass Automotive, recently responded after an eighteen-wheeler struck a large tree branch on Coryell Street between Houston Avenue and Dallas Street. The team safely removed the branch, cut it into manageable sections, and hauled away the debris. Their quick response cleared the roadway and helped maintain a safe area for motorists and pedestrians.
Public Safety / EMS Ambulance Maintenance and Repair
Fleet Maintenance recently received an EMS ambulance for repair after an issue was identified with the vehicle’s rear suspension system. A mechanic conducted a thorough diagnostic inspection and troubleshooting process to determine the cause of the issue. During the inspection, the mechanic determined that the micro switch responsible for regulating the pressure needed to properly balance the suspension system had failed and required replacement. The defective micro switch was replaced, and the suspension system was tested to verify proper operation.
During the service, the mechanic also determined that both engine batteries required replacement. Both batteries were replaced, followed by a final inspection and operational testing to ensure the ambulance was functioning properly. After successfully completing all repairs and testing, the ambulance was returned to service, supporting the continued delivery of essential emergency medical services to the community.
League City will consider citizen-led committee to oversee Flock camera use

League City council members are expected to consider implementing a citizen-led committee to oversee the city's Flock Safety automated license plate reader system at a meeting Tuesday night.
The move comes amid privacy concerns and growing public mistrust of Flock cameras nationwide. Flock cameras can capture a still image of a vehicle and license plate to be added to a large database including Texas law enforcement agencies and the FBI, according to League City officials.
The oversight committee would include three citizens appointed by city council members along with the mayor and city auditor. The members would review monthly or quarterly audit reports of the Flock system, consider public concerns and make recommendations about privacy protections and data security.

"We haven’t had any problems here yet, but I think it’s important to get ahead of it, and I think it’s important to just show the citizens that we take data security seriously and we take privacy seriously," League City Mayor Nick Long told Houston Public Media ahead of Tuesday's meeting.
Long said the committee would ultimately ensure officers use the system appropriately and that Flock Safety properly handles and disposes of data. Long said the committee won't have access to the actual Flock cameras or the system, but they’ll have access to the audit trail and be able to make sure the data is secure.
"I think there’s an important check and balance just to make sure that everybody knows that it’s not just us auditing ourselves that an independent group is also looking at it," Long said.
Tuesday's meeting includes a first reading and vote on the ordinance. If approved, the ordinance wouldn't go into effect until after a second vote at the next council meeting on Oct. 13.

The future of Flock camera use in the city is up in the air. League City council members voted to add a proposition to the November ballot asking voters if the city should continue using automated license plate reader cameras on public roadways for law enforcement purposes.
Council members will make the ultimate decision, but Long emphasized the importance for council members to listen to the voters’ opinions in November.
According to the proposed ordinance, if the official results of the Nov. 3 election show that a majority of voters prefer to discontinue the city's use of the Flock Safety system, the committee will automatically dissolve. If Flock cameras stay in place, the committee would continue.
The oversight committee would meet at least monthly for the first year, and the citizen members would serve staggered two-year terms, according to the proposed ordinance. Long said they're looking for people with backgrounds in law enforcement and technology as well as concerned citizens to sit on the committee.

League City's Artists in Residency (AIR) Program is welcoming three talented local artists who are ready to create, teach, and connect with the community over the next year.
This year's artists—Jack Moore, Becky Steele, and Delaney Yohe—have moved into their studios inside the historic Ghirardi House at Heritage Park, where they'll spend the next 12 months developing their work while sharing their passion for art through free classes, workshops, and public events. You can meet them in person, view their work, and see their studio space on the second and fourth Friday of every month.
Meet the Artists
Jack Moore is a recent graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design who specializes in digital illustration for animation, particularly creating the environments seen in animated films and television. During his residency, he'll offer classes for teens and young adults exploring the history of manga and anime, artistic techniques, and the fundamentals of creating compelling comic pages.
Becky Steele is a full-time acrylic painter and muralist known for her vibrant, nature-inspired artwork, expressive brushwork, and large-scale public murals—including a recently completed mural on a League City traffic signal box. She'll lead a community mural workshop where participants can help create a collaborative mural while learning about every step of the mural-making process, from design to installation.
Delaney Yohe is a multidisciplinary artist who enjoys working in watercolor, acrylic, oil, and gouache. She's currently creating a mixed-media sculpture series using found objects and hand-built ceramics. During her residency, she'll teach watercolor classes focused on landscapes and native Texas plants and wildlife.
A Unique Opportunity for Local Artists
Now in its second year, the AIR Program is part of League City's Public Art Initiative and provides selected local artists with free studio space where they can create, collaborate, and grow their artistic careers. In exchange, each artist teaches at least three free classes for League City residents through the City's library and Parks & Recreation programs. The artists also participate in public open houses and gallery events and receive guidance from experienced mentors, including professional artists, former art professors, educators, and business leaders.
A Historic Home for Creativity
The artists work from the Ghirardi House, a beautifully restored home in Heritage Park that dates back to 1918. Once the residence of Sebastian Ghirardi—the son of one of the 12 original Italian families who settled in League City—the home was donated to the City, relocated to Heritage Park, and carefully restored. Since 2025, it has served as the home of the Artists in Residency Program, blending League City's rich history with its growing arts community.
Selected Through a Competitive Process
Earning a spot in the AIR Program is no small feat. Applicants submit portfolios, letters of recommendation, and proposals outlining how the residency will support their artistic growth and the classes they plan to offer the community. City staff and members of the Keep League City Beautiful Committee carefully reviewed applications before selecting this year's three resident artists.
