- To qualify for a Medigap policy, you must first have Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B.
- Payments on your Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan will be made to the private insurance company that you choose, like Senior Medicare Insurance Services. These payments are made every month and are paid in addition to the monthly payment you make for Medicare Part B.
- If you are the holder of a Medicare Advantage Plan, it is illegal for an insurance company to sell you a senior Medicare Supplement Policy. If you plan on switching back to an Original Medicare plan, you may be able to purchase a Medigap policy.
- If you have health problems as you age, your standardized Medigap policy is guaranteed to be renewable. So long as you pay your monthly premium, your insurance provider cannot cancel your policy.
- Medigap policies only cover one person. If you have a spouse or family member that would like coverage, they must purchase a separate policy.
- You may only buy a Senior Medicare Supplement Plan from an insurance agent that is licensed to sell them in your state. Orlando, FL (August 24, 2026) – Orlando Health hospitals in West Orange and Osceola counties are launching several breast cancer screening events beginning this week, as doctors urge people who are due for mammograms not to wait until October.
“While Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a great time to come together and spread awareness, we want to make sure we’re talking about breast cancer year-round,” said Jeffrey Smith, MD, breast cancer surgeon with the Orlando Health Cancer Institute. “Early detection is so important because it can drastically improve outcomes for our patients.”
Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital, Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital and Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital will hold the following events leading into October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month:
During these events, attendees will be able to receive mammograms or sign up for mammograms, while enjoying mocktails and hors d’oeuvres, along with other activities.
“This has been a collaborative effort among our South Region hospitals to offer different events through the late summer and fall to provide additional access to our community,” said Philip Koovakada, senior vice president of Orlando Health and president of Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital. “In partnership with the Orlando Health Cancer Institute, we are committed to providing excellent care, and expanding breast cancer services, in the west Orange and Osceola communities.”

Earlier this year, Darden Restaurants — the Florida company behind the chain — revealed that Bahama Breeze was “no longer a strategic priority,” with all locations set to be either closed or converted into other existing Darden brands.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Central Florida is facing another day of dangerous heat as the region enters Day 9 of the ongoing heat wave.
A widespread heat advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the mid-90s.
Heat index values are expected to reach 102 to 108 degrees, creating potentially dangerous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.
The heat won’t be the only concern Wednesday.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across Central Florida, with the eastern half of the region having the best chance for heavy rainfall and gusty winds.
Even with storms in the forecast, temperatures will remain hot through the afternoon.
Residents should limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade.
Wednesday also marks a notable point in Orlando’s long, hot summer: the 100th day this year with temperatures reaching at least 90 degrees.
On average, Orlando sees about 110 days of 90-degree-or-higher temperatures each year.
And while the current heat wave is nearing its end, 90-degree temperatures are still considered normal in Orlando through about Sept. 19.
Central Florida could still have plenty of 90-degree days ahead. In fact, another 30 or so days of 90-degree heat are possible before the season’s typical end.
The good news is that the current heat wave is expected to wind down soon.
Temperatures should gradually fall back toward seasonal levels by the end of the week and into the weekend.

Orlando, FL (September 1, 2026) – Today, Orlando Health is debuting the Orlando Health Spine Center in the Tampa Bay area. The multidisciplinary program brings together orthopedic, neurosurgical and pain management physicians to provide prompt diagnosis and treatment for patients with back and spine concerns.
“Our goal is to make it easy for patients to connect with a specialist and receive the care they need quickly,” said Michael Jablonski, MD, president of the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute and Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute. “By bringing together a team of spine experts, we can provide coordinated care for a wide range of spine conditions, helping patients access the right treatment in a seamless manner.”
The center is comprised of multiple locations across the Tampa Bay area, including Tampa, Zephyrhills, Wesley Chapel, Brandon, Land O’Lakes and St. Petersburg. Two of those practices – Wesley Chapel and St. Petersburg – will offer walk-in clinics, where patients can receive care without making an appointment. With leading orthopedic, neuroscience and pain specialists at the helm, the program will guide patients through a customized journey to fit their needs, whether it’s physical therapy and rehabilitation, pain management, or minimally invasive surgery.
