- To qualify for a Medigap policy, you must first have Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B.
- Payments on your Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan will be made to the private insurance company that you choose, like Senior Medicare Insurance Services. These payments are made every month and are paid in addition to the monthly payment you make for Medicare Part B.
- If you are the holder of a Medicare Advantage Plan, it is illegal for an insurance company to sell you a senior Medicare Supplement Policy. If you plan on switching back to an Original Medicare plan, you may be able to purchase a Medigap policy.
- If you have health problems as you age, your standardized Medigap policy is guaranteed to be renewable. So long as you pay your monthly premium, your insurance provider cannot cancel your policy.
- Medigap policies only cover one person. If you have a spouse or family member that would like coverage, they must purchase a separate policy.
- You may only buy a Senior Medicare Supplement Plan from an insurance agent that is licensed to sell them in your state. Senior Medicare Insurance Services has been licensed to sell Medigap policies in South Carolina for years. - In the past, Medigap policies were able to cover costs related to prescription drugs. As of January 1st, 2006, prescription drug coverage is not available on Medicare Supplement Plans. WJCL 22 has announced that Savannah content creator and event photographer Bunny Ware is rejoining the station with her brand, “Bunny in the City,” to showcase local events and community stories.
Ware will share photos and videos from events across Southeast Georgia and the South Carolina Lowcountry. Her coverage will appear on WJCL 22 News, WJCL.com and the WJCL 22 News App.
“We are excited to reunite with Bunny and her years of experience illuminating events in the Savannah community,” said Ben Hart, president and general manager of WJCL 22. “This is a wonderful expansion of our mutual commitment to showcase what’s great about the Savannah area.”
The partnership marks a return to WJCL 22 for Ware, who began working at the station about 15 years ago on the assignment desk before transitioning to a community relations role.
“Coming back to WJCL 22 feels a little like coming home,” Ware said. “I love seeing how much the station has grown its commitment to the community, especially nonprofits and people doing good things. That’s what I’ve always wanted ‘Bunny in the City’ to be about — shining a light on the people and events that make this area special.”

SAVANNAH, Ga. —
Savannah officials are asking residents to help shape a proposal aimed at guiding future growth in the Canal District.
During a public meeting Tuesday, city leaders outlined potential zoning changes and development standards designed to revitalize the area while making it more accessible to pedestrians.
The proposal would establish zones for different uses, including housing, entertainment and industry. It also calls for districtwide standards that could prohibit drive-through businesses, limit building heights and require parking behind buildings.
City leaders say the plan could create a more community-oriented environment while allowing the district to grow.
"The purpose of this investment is to uplift this marginalized, low wealth corridor," said Savannah Alderwoman Bernetta Lanier, who represents Canal District on the Savannah City Council. "Wherever you find the worst conditions, that's where you're going find the most opportunity. So we're primed with opportunity right now and we're really excited about this."
Some residents, however, are concerned that new development could raise property values and increase costs for people who already live in the area.
“My number one priority... is property taxes,” meeting attendee Ruby Hall said. “Change brings many things, and how will that impact our older residents that are in the neighborhood?"
Lanier acknowledged those concerns and said city officials must continue working to protect residents from rising costs.
“There is more work to be done by council to make sure that we have the policies in place to protect the people,” Lanier said. "We have a responsibility going forward to make sure... there are benefits received by the residents of the area from this investment."
Lanier said potential changes in the Canal District have been discussed for decades, though the formal planning process moved forward last year.
The proposal remains part of an ongoing planning process, with public feedback expected to help guide the district’s future.

A recently completed apartment property near Savannah’s Historic District is set to become a 230-room Margaritaville hotel, bringing a new resort-style destination to one of the South’s most popular tourism markets.
The conversion of Ann Street Lofts, on Ann Street, into Margaritaville Hotel Savannah is expected to begin soon. Plans include a LandShark Bar & Grill, the brand’s signature restaurant concept, and what is expected to be the largest hotel pool deck in Savannah.
The location is next to Savannah's Greyhound station and Union Mission.
The hotel will be designed for leisure, group and business travelers while also offering dining and entertainment options for local residents.
Peachtree Group
A new use for Ann Street Lofts
Tidal Real Estate Partners developed Ann Street Lofts in 2023 as a multifamily property. At the time, zoning did not allow a hotel at the site. Once that changed, the developer identified an opportunity to convert the recently built property to hospitality use.
“This is a unique conversion because the property was originally developed as multifamily at a time when a hotel wasn’t permitted under the zoning,” said Jared Schlosser, head of originations and C-PACE at Peachtree Group. “Once that changed, it created an opportunity to reposition an already high-quality asset into what we believe is its highest and best use.”
Because the property is relatively new, the rooms will require limited work. That will allow much of the investment to focus on amenities and common areas intended to give the hotel a distinctive atmosphere.
Rare large hotel in the area
The Margaritaville project also stands out because Savannah has limited the development of larger hotels in its Historic District.
Restrictions adopted in 2018 effectively cap new hotels in the district at 74 rooms. Once the conversion is complete, the 230-room Margaritaville Hotel Savannah is expected to be one of only five hotels in the market with more than 100 rooms.
The project is being financed through a $113 million bridge loan from Peachtree Group to Tidal Real Estate Partners. The three-year, floating-rate loan includes two 12-month extension options.

SAVANNAH, Ga. —
Leopold’s Ice Cream donated $8,500 to Make-A-Wish Georgia following a month-long fundraising campaign benefiting local children with critical illnesses.
The Savannah ice cream shop announced the donation Tuesday, Sept. 1, during the campaign closing celebration at its Broughton Street location.
Throughout August, customers could support the campaign by purchasing a Luna’s Star Sundae, making donations in the shop and participating in a dunk booth during Leopold’s birthday celebration.
The money raised will help Make-A-Wish Georgia grant wishes for children and families in the local community.
“Our community steps up every single year to support children and families who need extra joy,” said Stratton Leopold, owner of Leopold’s Ice Cream. “We are thrilled to gather on Broughton Street to celebrate this partnership, present the final check to Make-A-Wish Georgia, and present a fantastic raffle prize to one of our many generous patrons.”
The campaign also celebrated Luna, a local wish kid whose dream trip to Disney was honored through the partnership.
“Partnering with Make-A-Wish Georgia is deeply personal for our entire Leopold’s family,” said Mary Leopold. “From celebrating Sun’s journey to Hawaii to honoring Luna’s dream trip to Disney, our community always shows up with extraordinary heart and generosity.”
The closing celebration also included a live raffle drawing for a prize basket.
